 GADSDEN COUNTY, FL- -Gadsden County Emergency Management continues to closely monitor the current weather situation in the county expected due to Tropical Storm Elsa, including thunderstorms and flooding. As a result, Gadsden County Emergency Management and Gadsden County Public Works have made sandbag operations available for residents.

Sandbags are available now to the public at the following location:

  • Post Plant Pitt off Post Plant Road  
  • Clark Pitt off Edwin Clark Road 

 This location will not be staffed from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and residents will need to bring a shovel. Sand, bags, and ties will be available for public use. Residents are asked to abide by the “honor system” and take no more than 10 bags.

 Property owners who have experienced flooding problems in the past can use sandbags to help protect stormwater from entering their property. 

 Gadsden County Emergency Management advises that residents monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to take the necessary precautions to protect life and property. Drivers should use caution and adhere to any official signage.

 The National Weather Service also warns that residents should not drive cars through flooded areas and if they see floodwaters to turn around and find another route. Residents are also encouraged not to attempt to walk through floodwaters.  All flood water should be considered to be contaminated. Do not allow children to play in, wade through, or swim in floodwater.
