GADSDEN COUNTY TO HOST SITE DEDICATION FOR NEW PUBLIC SAFETY COMPLEX

WHO: Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners, Gadsden County Sheriff and Governor Ron DeSantis
WHAT: Public Safety Complex Site Dedication
WHEN: Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 11 a.m.
WHERE: 25 Joe Adams Road, Quincy

The Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners and Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young will join Governor Ron DeSantis on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the future site for the new Public Safety Complex in Quincy.

As documented by Chapter 2021-36, Laws of Florida, Section 6, Specific Appropriation 2645, the Legislature and the Governor appropriated $10 million of Fixed Capital Outlay funds for design and construction of a future Gadsden County Emergency Operations Center and Public Safety Complex to include Emergency Management Operations, Enhance 911 Services, 911 Communications Center and Sheriff's Office Services.

These funds have been allocated through the Florida Division of Emergency Management via State agreement F0098. Per Senate, Form 2215 and House Bill (HB) 4397, allocated funds are to be used to complete site work on land designated for the construction of a future new County Emergency Operations Center and Public Safety Complex.

Gadsden County was appropriated funding because it is one of eight small rural Florida counties not recognized by the State as having an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) facility meeting minimum hurricane safety criteria based on current federal, state, and local laws and regulations and/or not having sufficient EOC operational workspace.  The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, which houses the Emergency Operations Center, operates in a 70+ year old building that does not meet hurricane building codes. There is not enough space to accommodate meetings with representatives and support staff of all agencies needed during an emergency.

Through the funding of this project, all emergency and disaster planning, recovery, and response activities will be coordinated and implemented under one roof to ensure that all emergency and disaster-related services, activities, communication, and information needs are conducted in a cohesive and timely manner to all citizens, visitors, businesses and partners of Gadsden County.
