GADSDEN COUNTY CELEBRATES EXPANSION OF COWEN PUBLIC LIBRARY
CHATTAHOOCHEE, FL — Gadsden County is proud to announce the expansion of the Cowen Public Library, a transformative project that will enhance educational opportunities, workforce development resources, digital access, healthcare connectivity, and community services for residents throughout Chattahoochee and the surrounding areas. There will be a groundbreaking ceremony held on July 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. EST at 300 Maple St. Chattahoochee, FL 32324.
Funded through the Florida Department of Commerce under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the project includes an approximately 4,000-square-foot addition to the existing library and represents a $4 million investment in the future of Gadsden County.
The expansion has been thoughtfully designed to meet a variety of community needs. The new addition will feature four telehealth offices, providing residents with greater access to healthcare services through virtual appointments and consultations. Dedicated office and meeting spaces will also support workforce development initiatives to provide training programs, career counseling, and employment assistance services within the facility.
In addition to healthcare and workforce resources, the expansion will create a modern and engaging environment for youth and families. The new space will include a state-of-the-art computer lab, flexible learning areas, and dedicated youth-centered spaces designed to encourage exploration, creativity, and collaboration. By incorporating interactive technology, adaptable furnishings, and vibrant design elements, the facility will serve as a welcoming "third space" where young residents can gather, learn, and engage outside of home and school environments.
The addition will include its own sidewalks, parking area, operational facilities, and restrooms, creating a fully functional extension of the existing library. A large central gathering area will support library programming, computer access, educational activities, community events, and other social and cultural opportunities for residents of all ages.
The Cowen Public Library expansion demonstrates Gadsden County's continued investment in improving the quality of life, strengthening community infrastructure, and creating opportunities for residents to connect, learn, and thrive.
